Morris Lopez is a proud third-generation Tampa native and lifelong resident. He is running for Tampa City Council District 7 because he believes in the transformative power of community and responsible leadership. His mission is to ensure that Tampa’s neighborhoods are safe, prepared, and heard.

Growing up in Tampa, Morris was instilled with the values of hard work, compassion, and resilience by his family and the community around him. These values, along with the legacy of his grandfather, Morris Lopez, — who “walked the beat” as a Tampa police officer in Ybor City during the 1940s — have inspired his lifelong commitment to public service.

As a Division Chief with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, Morris has dedicated nearly four decades to serving the community he calls home. His career has been defined by disciplined leadership, real accountability, and a guiding principle that shapes his approach to both public safety and public service: “Fix Problems, Build Trust”!

Morris is driven by a vision of a community where every voice is heard, and every resident has the opportunity to thrive. He believes public service works best when leaders treat people as partners, not opponents. Together, he believes Tampa can continue to build a future that honors its diverse heritage while embracing unity and a shared purpose.
